When you think of the East Coast of the U.S., you may think of the iconic image of the New York City skyline.
But, you might not know that one of the best places to view that skyline is actually across the Hudson River in Hudson County, New Jersey. I spent some time here soaking in the views, getting to know the diverse, eclectic neighborhoods, visiting award-winning eateries, attending cultural performances and having fun with both outdoor and indoor activities for all ages!
The Majestic Statue of Liberty
My first stop in Hudson County took me up-close to the Statue of Liberty. The famous landmark historically symbolized hope and freedom, and she still does today. A short 15 minute ferry ride from Liberty State Park in Jersey City took me right over to see the iconic statue. The same ferry also took me over to Ellis Island, where 12 million immigrants, from around the globe, entered the United States between 1892 and 1934.

Exploring Liberty State Park
As the sun glistened off the Hudson River, I strolled through the lush oasis of Liberty State Park. Spanning over 1,200 acres, the park includes a 36-acre nature preserve, walking paths and Liberty Science Center, home to the world’s largest IMAX dome theatre. When I heard I could kayak along the Hudson River, I was immediately on board. With experienced guides that take you out on the water, it’s a personalized treat!

Delicious Dining with a View
The park also offered tasty dining options. I always feel that food is best when all your senses are heightened, and the cuisine at Liberty House Restaurant, nestled in Liberty State Park, is simply mouthwatering. Paired with the most incredible view of New York City, I discovered a real feast for my eyes and my taste buds!

Take the Driver’s Seat
The Pole Position Raceway in Hudson County is a huge indoor electric go-kart track. As an adrenaline enthusiast, I had to check it out. It took me a couple times round to get the hang of it, but once I did, there was no stopping me. Pole Position Raceway is definitely fun for the whole family!

Roaring Cheers and Sporting Fun
As a Brit, I naturally have a deep love for football (soccer), and when I heard that Red Bull Arena in Hudson County is the home to the Red Bulls, I knew I had to catch a game. It is so much fun to cheer them on with a stadium of full of soccer fans!

Jersey City Nights
In Jersey City, I was delighted to find a surprising European vibe. The narrow winding streets filled with bustling bars and eclectic restaurants made me feel right at home. I stopped in for a bite to eat and some delicious cocktails at the Archer Bar, which has the aesthetics of an old world gaming lodge.
I love that Hudson County feels like a hidden gem. With breathtaking views of New York City, food spots to ‘dine’ for and fun outdoor activities, I am already planning my next trip. Maybe I’ll bump into you there?
